The payneta (or peineta) is a traditional decorative comb worn by Filipina women to complete the traje de mestiza - the Maria Clara dress of 19th-century Philippine fashion. Amami's version features five meticulously handcrafted tamburin beads, including the Amami bead, the most intricate tamburin form in their collection - and the one that gave the brand its name. Sweep it along the side of the head or tuck it into a loosely pinned bun. The word 'payneta' even appears in the lyrics of the beloved Filipino folk song Paru-parong Bukid.
